Date Types

The word “date” (means Khajoor | کهجور ) is derived from the Greek word daktylos which means “finger.” In the Middle East, the date palm is regarded as the “tree of life” and chosen as the regional symbol and is part of everyday food.

Khajoors (Dates) are available year-round and are harvested in fall and early winter. Dates are one of the world’s superfoods and contain essential vitamins and minerals. They are the world’s oldest health food and their natural sweet fruit is being considered an essential part of their daily diet.

There are many different types of dates. beyond the most popular few that are found in stores and markets all over the world, and each is unique in its own way. 

Dates are different varieties of dates such as Fresh Dates, Natural Plain Dates, Filled Dates, coated Dates, and elite creations of products made from finest Dates quality. The major types of dates include saghai, safawi, deglet noor, barhi, sukkari, kholas, zahidi, Medjool, khudri, and anbara, among others.

Ajwa 

Ajwa date (khajoor) is also known as the ‘Holy Date’. Ajwa holds a special place in the Islamic world for the reason that in some texts Ajwa refers to a type of date that has an origin from a palm tree planted by Prophet Muhammad. Ajwa dates have a sweet, meaty taste and risen–like texture with a flavor that hints of honey,and cinnamon.

Ajwa date is rich in nutrients and contain protein, carbohydrates, dietary fibre and healthy fats. It has very positive effects on the skin and provides cure against various skin diseases.

Safawi

Safawi dates grow in the city of Al-Madina, Saudia Arabia during the warm summer months of July and August. Safwai dates are soft and main variety of dates are of deep black color and structurally resembles Ajwa dates.  These dried dates are delicious and soft so you can continue to enjoy the wonderful taste throughout the year.

The flesh is soft and chewy with a sweet flavor and is known to be rich in nutritional value, as it contains a number of minerals and vitamins. Safawi dates also contain monosaccharides glucose and fructose. 

Amber

Amber dates are one of the finest of Madinah dates. Amber date  (also known as Anbara) is a soft and fleshy dry variety of date fruit from Saudi Arabia. Anbara is quite big in size, but very light and not too sweet, which makes them a perfect snack any time of the day. They’re juicy, soft, and very aromatic. The flesh is tender yet almost slightly crispy.

Segai

Segai is a favorite date in Saudi Arabia and mainly produced in Madina. Segai is medium-sized, two-toned dates and traditionally, it is eaten along with Arabic coffee/kehwa. Those juicy dates are soft while at the same time chewy and have a golden, slightly dry, and crunchy base. The smooth texture and sweetness complement the ritual of coffee drinkers all over Arabia. This combination of different colors and textures makes it an absolutely delicious date. The unique texture and taste make them unconventional, tasty, and unforgettably good!

Mabroom 

 Mabroom dates have a long willowy body. They have skin that is almost shining and dark brown in color. They have a smooth and pleasant flavor but are much firmer than other date varieties. Mabroom dates are deliciously sweet and sticky, with light red-bronze skin and a lingering toffee-like taste on the palate.

Mabroom tastes different than other date varieties and you will be surprised by their distinctive sweet and smooth flavor. Some may even find them quite hard to chew, like candy. We think that’s exactly what makes Mabroom special. Therefore, they’re best eaten at room temperature, not straight out of the fridge. 

Sukkari

 Sukkari dates are soft and sweet with an extra soft moist texture. Also known as the Royal dates, Sukari dates are cone-shaped with marked folds in their skin. A gorgeous brown color, with golden-yellowish tones, Sukkari dates have a caramelized and fruity taste that melts nicely in your mouth. With the unique attributes of not being neither too dry and nor too sweet, they are considered ideal for use in cakes, smoothies, pastries, and salads. Their origin is known to be from Al-Qasim, Saudi Arabia, and is one of the most popular dates in the whole Middle East region.
